FCP X. won't import over. 20 minutes

Thanks Tom for taking an interest in my problem.

First off, I'm dealing with FCP X 10.2.3.

iMac (27-inch, Late 2009)

2.66 GHz Intel Core i5

8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

The Drive is one of two 4TB LaCie external USB drives purchased at the Apple Store. (no problems with them so far)

They are connected through a Belkin 4 port USB3 hub purchased at the Apple Store. (no probs with it as far as I can tell)

The Drive is formatted for a Mac with no partitions. (I intended it to be a bulk video storage device.)

The other 4TB LaCie USB drive (identical) is for TimeMachine backups of the system.

There are also 2 external USB drives connected.

1.5TB Seagate (for Video Archives)

1TB Western Digital (Final Production Archives)

The total of the "import" ended up in 3 files totaling a little over 9gig in the archive ( ______.fcarch) File (film can) which I can only see using FCP X. Finder won't show the contents of the FilmCan Archive file.

I must be doing something wrong.

I created a folder for "Archives" containing a "Cache" folder and a "Media" folder and directed FCP to import to those folders on the bulk drive by going to the "Library Properties" and setting up the "Storage Locations".

Of these folders, only the Cache ended up with anything in it. (2 Cache.fcpcache files)

To me the "Help" documentation isn't too clear on importing to an Archive.

I'm confused and it's late...

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

I just disconnected everything but the hard drive and still have the same problem.

The total import ends up consisting of three files.

The first file is 14 minutes 58 seconds.

The second file is five minutes.

The third file his two seconds.

I have tried this now three times since disconnecting everything except my external hard drive.

I'm going to try to import to my home drive and if that doesn't work then I'll try importing with QuickTime 10 and QuickTime 7

I Have been sucessful in importing 3-1hr. Files to the external drive using QT7 but QT10 wouldn't work.

Next I will attempt to archive the tape using FCP X to the internal drive Which would be counter productive in that I will have to copy or move it to the bulk storage drive.

It very well could be. It's hard to tell since most of these tapes are so old Final Cut Pro X doesn't recognize the Sony TRV103 that took them so I'm having to resort to good old QuickTime 7 to do my importing.

Thanks for your ideas and assistance. Disconnecting the drives did not seem to make any difference.

I am amazed at the quality that these 16-year-old tapes have retained. I thought they would be gone after 10 years. Even the color still seems vibrant. Thanks for your help on this one.
